proof in writing

after much cajoling from mutual friends, my husband and i officially met at the northumberland christian school spring program a few days after my sisters wedding in april 2009, or so i thought.

george and i grew up 5 years apart, but traveled in the some of the same circles (our friends were siblings and we are/were almost confident that our paths must have crossed at certain functions. we just didn't remember ever meeting each other)

while cleaning out some books and things from my parents' house, i stumbled upon some old journals from college years and thought it would be fun to read through them. and there it was...proof in writing (by my own hand) that i had met george before. it was at a cookout at mary spangler's house. a bunch of college/career age individuals were hoping to start a bible study. we chatted and played games while talking about possibilities for the study, and just had a really fun time. so much fun, in fact, that i wrote down the names of everyone in attendance, one of whom was george geiss (i didn't know how to spell my future last name back then!) :)

when i read it i laughed hysterically! then, as i was sharing why i was laughing with george, i noticed the date on the entry...the suspense is killing you, i know.

the date was 6-5-2001 (9 years to the day before our wedding day 6-5-2010!) crazy!

of course, we might have met each other before that, who knows...

texts 'r' us

what is it with the texting? no offense to anyone who is a frequent texter, but i just don't understand.

why do two girls walking down a sidewalk both text? are they texting each other (sadly this is possible)? or are they too bored with each other's company that they need to find stimulating conversation elsewhere?

why do students sitting in a classroom, surrounded by their friends, rely on the an absent party to "talk" to? and why, after doing so for an extended period of time, do they continue to wonder why they don't "get" the material they are supposed to be learning?

why do parents text their kids during school hours and expect them to text back? this is the craziest...

the whole idea of the text is to be discreet in a public setting (where talking on the phone would be loud/rude) or to relay a BRIEF amount of information (when there is no need for a drawn out phone conversation). texting back and forth meaningless trivialities is a complete waste of time (pick up the phone and TALK to the person...learn the benefits of having a meaningful conversation)
