closure

two bookends have been put in place to close out the issues of yesterday...more to be thankful for on this day after Thanksgiving.

1st bookend - my dad found his teeth!...apparently they had fallen out onto the bed when he dozed off for a bit last night, so it's all good

2nd bookend - the squirrel has been captured and put out into the wild again. it didn't go back outside yesterday as i had hoped. i went down to the house again today and there it was on top of the curtain, just as it was when i found it yesterday. i called in a favor from the bennett clan and they had the problem wrapped up before i ever got back to the house to help! :) dad bennett scared the squirrel off of the curtain rod onto the floor, at which point joel used his mad soccer skills to kick the squirrel towards the box his lovely wife anna was holding at the ready. they packed him up good and waited outside so we could all be present for the unboxing of the squirrel. fun times!

lost something?

i assume that everyone who is reading this has lost something at some point in time...however, if you are like me, you tend to lose things more often than what is normal. it's just one of the many "fun" traits i've inherited from my father...but just a moment ago i felt real fear for the first time about where this characteristic will lead me: my dad just walked downstairs and asked me if he left his teeth down here. i was slightly confused at first, thinking he was half asleep (he had been up in bed for about an hour before this), then i noticed that he wasn't talking quite right...he definitely meant it when he said he was looking for his teeth! i do hope he finds them...it'd be rather awkward until he had a new set made...

...of dogs and squirrels

i am taking care of my friend jana's cat as she is at her parents for this holiday of thanksgiving. as i was consoling her cat today, i happened to glance up at the window to find a squirrel atop the curtain rod, clutching it in fear in case i should notice its presence. oh....believe me...i noticed. and then i called home for squirrel catching strategies.

after much broom shooing, and the occasional scream, i got the squirrel on the floor and scared it into the dining room...and then it disappeared. searching high and low yielded no trace of the squirrel. my hope is that it made its way back outdoors using the cat door that it most definitely used to get in...

it's not often that i think to myself "if only tucker were here"...okay, i hardly ever think that (no offense jana...i do love your dog, just not that much). but today i could have really used that nose of his to tell me whether there was/is still a squirrel in the house. i guess i'll find out tomorrow...

In other news...

...last night "Set to Kill" won over the number 1 "J.A.K.E." in 2 out of 4 volleyball games. When asked about the experience one player said, "I knew we could do it! We just needed to stop defeating ourselves. There were a few plays in the game where we 'lost it' and all stood dumbfounded as a ball or two dropped slowly to the floor on our side of the net. Nobody moved! I mean, did we take a trip to bizarro world or something? But then we really got our heads in the game and managed to come out on top twice...the final score for both wins were a suspenseful 25-24 and 25-23. Intense!" Next week "Set to Kill" takes on the #2 seed and hopes to take at least 3 of the 4 match-ups.

This has been Jeanne Hackenberg's prep period commentary on the LARA volleyball league events of Tuesday November 18th. Be sure to make it out next Tuesday for the sequel!

DD Reprise

What if I was allergic to the coloring in the sprinkles? Or what if I just cleaned out my car? it could happen :) What if I needed the donut for an experiment and the sprinkles skewed the data?

Needless to say, yesterday morning I was given a donut that was half-covered in sprinkles...and they DID get all over my car...and yes, it annoyed me.
