ice stories

i love the changing seasons in pennsylvania, but to be honest, the winter season is my least favorite. thankfully, ice is as interesting and beautiful as it is annoying.

story 1: once upon a time i left my car outside during an ice storm. when i started my car the next day, the ice was 3 inches thick. i picked up a perfect ice mold of my tires, and when i rolled down my window, the ice remained intact: a perfect window made completely out of ice. living out a childlike dream to punch through a pane of glass (without getting hurt), i balled my hand into a fist and thrust it through the "window"...so much fun!

story 2: have you ever been afraid of being in the wrong place at the wrong time when one of those sheets of ice fly off the van trailers or other vehicles? now i know what it feels like to get struck by one. i wasn't even on the road yet, which is the strange part. as i was sitting in my driveway, looking left and right before pulling out, a school bus passed by. in what seemed like a full 10 seconds later, i was startled by ice crashing against my windshield. i never saw it coming. i am happy to inform you that it did not scratch my windshield, which is the typical fear i have while driving behind those individuals who break the law by not cleaning off their roofs.

story 3: not really a story, but ice is the most amazing thing. today i saw where water had turned to ice as it was shooting out of a spout off the edge of a house. the ice was about a foot and a half long with shoots that made it look like the water was still gushing out of the spout.

cool stuff, ice. makes for a nice "snow" day once in a while, too!
